Knights celebrate second victory for Walna Scar Print E-mail

The Lake District National Park's Planning Committee has voted to recommend imposing a Restricted Byway  Order on Cumbria's historic Walna Scar Road, thereby criminalising the use of motorized vehicles on the rugged track between Coniston and Seathwaite.

This further cements the High Court's decision in September to overturn an independent planning inspector's recommendation that Walna Scar Road should be a Byway Open to All Traffic, based on historic motorcycle use and championed by off-roading pressure groups.

Knights Solicitors successfully led the Statutory Appeal in the High Court on behalf of the Green Lanes Environmental Action Movement and is delighted with this latest result.  Objections to this decision received before the 1st April will still be referred to the independent planning inspectorate but walkers, riders and cyclists who use the route are now just one step away from securing forever the safe use and environmental conservation of this wild and beautiful track.
