Political/Electoral Law Print E-mail
The firm acts for a number of national political organisations. In the run up to both 2001 and 2005 General Elections and in anticipation of referenda on the Euro and the European Constitution, we have advised on compliance with the Representation of the People Act 1983 and Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000. We have also advised on the 2000 Act in its wider context, in particular in relation to its compatibility with the Human Rights Act 1998.

In addition, we have successfully used passing off as a remedy in this area, with the Court of Appeal restating the law to enable political organisations to protect themselves from rival bodies using their name.
